Where's Michelle?

There has been much discussion as to whether or not Michelle was suppose to be at work that fateful Friday. To this day this has not been definitively established. On the 911 tape Meredith does tell the dispatcher that Michelle was not suppose to be home; she was suppose to be at work. Friends, and co-workers of Progress Energy have weighed in with different information.

Posted by carolina_lady: Concerning why a co-worker may not have called to find out why Michelle wasn't at work - I work at Progress Energy and we have flexible work schedules.

Typically, we work nine hour days and have every other Friday off work. I don't know if the Friday Michelle was killed was her day off or not. But even if it wasn't - it is not unusual for people to swap days off. If a person has an appointment or some other engagement, it's typical to "swap" Fridays off. If it was Michelle's Friday to work and she didn't come in, it wouldn't be unusual at all for her co-workers to assume she had swapped that day off with another co-worker - maybe for a doctor's appointment or for some other reason.

If her supervisor didn't inquire, there wouldn't be any real reason to be worried. And it wouldn't be unusual for her supervisor not to ask about it. (The Tax Dept is rather large.) People are trusted to work their hours at PE unless there is some reason to question them. (And if there is a lot of reason to question them, they won't be PE employees for long.)

Timesheets are monitored, of course - but it would probably be assumed that if Michelle had swapped her Friday to work, she would work the next Friday. I am heartsick about this. Michelle is the second PE employee to be murdered in a matter of months. PE is a large company - but still - it's a horrible thing.

Posted by roseislandfan: I am new to the board and would like to share a couple of my thoughts on this terrible tragedy....1. I really think it is odd that JY would send MY's sister over to the house to pick up a "fax" when she was not scheduled to be at work that day. She had a Dr's appt. in the AM and it was her flex day at work. He had to have known that it was her scheduled day off. While I would love for him to be innocent in this crime for the daughter's sake, I can't seem to get past that one fact...

Posted by roseislandfan: I am posting to address the question as to whether MY was supposed to be at work that day. That particular Fri was her FLEX day and she was NOT supposed to be at work. She had no meetings scheduled and was not due to come into work until Monday. It is true, she did have a Dr. apt scheduled...This is one reason why I think JY is looking more and more guilty. I'm sure he knew her work schedule, why would he send MF over to retrieve a "print out" if he knew MY would be home?
